I apologize for the lax in updates over the past couple of weeks. I’ve been super busy getting caught up on all of my Serial Photog related work after my week-long trip to Florida and Tennessee. That’s not what this post is about though.
What I want to discuss here is a cause called The 11th Essential. The premise of this initiative is really quite simple. We’ve all heard of the 10 essentials. The idea here is to add a trash bag as an eleventh essential.
Not convinced? Then I encourage you to take a moment to read the basis of this argument.
The 11th Essential Concept
Let’s face it, our public lands have a serious trash problem. It’s virtually impossible to find a parcel of public land that doesn’t contain litter of some sort. Unfortunately, the actions of the inconsiderate people that leave this litter are slowly but surely destroying our lands. At the rate things are going, our public lands won’t be in an enjoyable state for future generations.
Being lovers and visitors of these natural spaces it’s our responsibility to be stewards to them. The whole idea of adding a trash bag as an eleventh essential is to facilitate a way for us to leave our public lands cleaner than how we found them.
Just imagine how big a difference it would make if even a tenth of the people that visit our public lands carried out a bag of trash with them each visit! That’s the whole idea behind this movement. It really is that simple!
How To Help
Before we go any further, I want to make it clear that this is not my idea (even though I wish I had thought of it)! This project is the product of Instagram user @britanyinwanderland. On a side note, I highly encourage you to go give her a follow! If you like my content, there’s a good chance you’ll like hers as well.
You can help this movement through a few very simple steps:
